Gul Bid Fails

Breaking News: Following more protests in Turkey yesterday, the Islamist Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul has failed to attract sufficient support in today's parliamentary vote to nominate a new president and is now withdrawing from the race. Although it is uncertain who will be chosen, I expect this will bring some relief and cause some celebration throughout the country - and, indeed, across Europe.
